WOW, James Cagney, Mary Astor, Joan Blondell plus B movie king Regis Toomey. Thanks for this sleeper. Love Joan Blondell comment, “ I am APO, Ain’t putting out”.

US films released before 1964 had to have their copyrights renewed after 28 years.
I cannot find a copyright renewal for this film.

Otherwise, the line begins with a number representing how
closely the title was matched; 0.00 means a perfect match,
and 0.18, for example, would indicate a poor match.)

If this is under copyright, then there must have been a copyright renewal. Can anyone find it and show it here?
For those who don't know what a copyright renewal looks like, here are a couple (for 2 other Grant Withers films):

eight reels by First National Pic-
tures, Inc. (C) 8May31; L2207.

IMDB categorically states this film was never copyrighted. See the following:
"Although the title card bears a 1930 copyright statement, this film was apparently never copyrighted, under either of its two titles. It was completed in mid-1930, and reviewed in Motion Picture Herald 4 October 1930, and in Photoplay Magazine in December 1930, but did not open in New York City until April 1931."

Subject: Great film, but PD?
Just watched for an episode of a podcast believing it was PD, but when posting the vid to YouTube, WB immediately gave a copyright notice.
So, maybe not in public domain?
Very interesting film. Unlike anything I've seen before as far as how, and where the story takes the audience.
Very well acted and fantastic setting!

WB was grinding out Double features in the 30's and 40's. Nice to see James Cagney before his starring role in Public Enemy.
